It may surprise you to learn that Tesla produces not only electric cars but also Powerwall, a home battery which can be charged with the use of solar panels. Tesla is highly regarded as one of the best companies to produce long-lasting batteries that can save huge amounts on electricity bills. Tesla has introduced an energy plan to enable their clients to switch to green energy and save money on their electricity bill. Below we’ll focus on getting to know more about the Tesla energy plan and how it can be extremely beneficial for a Tesla customer.

What is the energy plan

The energy plan is provided by Tesla in partnership with Octopus Energy. It is aimed at enabling its clients to acquire a Tesla Powerwall with ease. The Tesla energy plan offers the most competitive import and export rates on the market with a flat import rate of £0.08/kWh – the lowest single rate tariff available in the market (as of July 2020) and export rate of £0.08/kWh for any exported electricity. The plan is 24/7 flat rate with no standing charges.

How to join the energy plan

Well, joining the energy plan is pretty simple. To qualify for the Tesla energy plan you must own or have installed, a Tesla vehicle, Tesla Powerwall 2, EV charger, solar panels and a domestic electricity supply. Upon purchasing the Tesla Powerwall 2 customers will receive £200 credit, which is equivalent to 8,000 miles of free driving. This is only applicable to those who don’t already own Powerwall 2.

Tesla vehicles

Tesla started the process of manufacturing electric vehicles back in the year 2012. From 2012, the company has manufactured various electric car models such as the Roadster, Model S, Model X, Model 3 and the more recently announced, controversial Cybertruck. The Tesla model S was launched back in 2012. It was among the first fully electric vehicles to be launched in the world. The model S is a state-of-the-art vehicle which combines high performance with great economy. It can accelerate from 0-60 mph in 2.3 seconds and as of June 2020 is the first electric car with an EPA-certified range of more than 400 miles.

As they are fully electric vehicles, any Tesla will save you fuel cost since they can be charged anywhere with the use of an EV charger or public Tesla Supercharger station. An electric vehicle charger can be installed anywhere, including at your house. Charging points can be powered by solar energy or a Powerwall 2, so no need to worry about the hiking electricity bills.

Powerwall 2

The Tesla Powerwall 2 which is an advancement from its predecessor Powerwall 1 is the cheapest battery system per kWh available today, allowing for up to 14kWh of electricity to be stored. The Powerwall 2 includes features not found on other battery units, such as power cut protection which will back up a reserve 20% power for use in the event of a power cut. The Tesla app also allows users to seamlessly monitor Powerwall, solar and home energy use anytime, from anywhere. Powerwall 2 is the only home battery where all components are created by the same manufacturer (Tesla themselves), giving further strength to the already huge 10-year standard warranty.

How to register for the plan

Once you pay the required installation fee of the Powerwall, you will be required to schedule the installation. You should find a certified Tesla Powerwall installer. Once the installation is done, you are now ready to join the energy plan. You will be required to sign up for the energy plan which can be done here: https://octopus.energy/tesla/tariff/#/join.

Alternatively for more information on your eligibility for the plan, please see https://octopus.energy/tesla-energy-plan-faq/. You may also consult your Tesla energy plan Octopus dealer to assist you in the signing up process. Once the process is done, it’s time to activate the plan. Once you have activated your energy plan, you can now enjoy using Tesla products at a flat rate. The registration process is as simple as that.

Advantages of the energy plan

First and foremost the most obvious benefit is that the energy plan will help you to save on your bills. This is enabled by using the Powerwall 2 with a solar PV system, which is required before registering for the energy plan.

Having Powerwall 2 installed makes life much easier, all energy produced by your solar PV is stored and can be used at a later time wherever required at no additional cost, or alternatively sold back to the grid.

Using the Tesla app, you will be able to monitor the status of your Powerwall. The monitoring of your Powerwall can be done from anywhere in the world. The application will enable you to know when your battery system is fully charged and when it needs recharging. You will receive 24/7 customer care support from Tesla and Octopus energy. They also assist in solving any problems you may encounter whilst using the Tesla energy plan.
